Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an optical fiber type temperature distribution measuring instrument which is excellent in working efficiency and can measure temperature distributions with high accuracy.
CONSTITUTION: The title measuring instrument 30 is provided with an optical fiber 32 for reference connected between a pulsed light generator 12 and optical fiber 16 for sensor and a thermostat 44 which maintains the temperature of the fiber 32 at a constant level. The light losses of Raman scattered light at each wavelength in the fiber 16 are found based on the distribution of backward scattered light (Rayleigh scattered light) generated in the fiber 32 and the found losses are utilized for measuring temperature distribution in a data processing circuit 42.
