Abstract:
To provide an optical fiber capable of reducing an increase in transmission loss.SOLUTION: An optical fiber 1, which is an optical fiber made of silica-based glass, includes a core 10 and a cladding 20 surrounding the core 10. A refractive index of the cladding 20 is smaller than a refractive index of the core 10. The core 10 includes one element of an alkali metal element group and includes also chlorine. A concentration of chlorine is 1 wt.ppm or more in a whole area of the core 10, and an absolute value of a radial variation rate of the chlorine concentration is smaller than 2000 wt.ppm/μm in the whole area of the core 10.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
