To provide an optical film made of cyclic olefin based resin homogeneous in thickness direction and superior in transparency, in industrial manufacture of a long film, and a method of manufacturing the same.
The optical film contains cyclic olefin based resin having a structural unit derived from a compound represented by formula (1) and has a film thickness of 30 m or more, wherein a polystyrene-equivalent number average molecular weight measured by a gel permeation chromatography in which the film is dissolved in tetrohydrofuran satisfies expression (A) of |1-M2/M1|100(%)5%, where M1 is the number average molecular weight measured by using a cut film piece so that its cut face is perpendicular to a film surface, and M2 is the number average molecular weight measured by using a portion from the surface of the film to the depth of 1 m in the thickness direction.
