Title:
OPTICAL FILTER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2014228640
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of an AWG type optical filter of prior art that, although a new active function can be imparted by using thermooptical effects, a response speed specific to thermooptical effects is slow, and the core of a Ti-diffusion LiNbOwaveguide has a drawback in that, since a large change in refractive index cannot be imparted because of a grated type refractive index distribution, the bend radius of the waveguide must be relatively large in order to avoid losses, making it difficult to put each optical circuit part compactly together to integrate them with high density and, hence, posing limitations on device downsizing.SOLUTION: In the present invention, each waveguide is formed on a single substrate. An LN optical waveguide used in an AWG type optical filter is fabricated by a Ti diffusion process. Furthermore, as a ridge type waveguide structure is employed, it is made possible to improve the confinement of horizontal-direction light, and to reduce the bend radius still more as compared with a waveguide fabricated by the Ti diffusion process alone. Also, by fabricating the waveguide by a direct joining method, it is made possible to suppress a DC drift in an optical circuit of a filter characteristic, etc., and to dispense with a mechanism and circuit for feedback processing.
