Abstract:
To provide an optical modulation element with which it is possible to reproduce an optical image with a specific color other than a rainbow color when white light enters without providing a layer that selectively transmits or reflects a specific wavelength band, and an information recording medium provided with such an optical modulation element, and provide an optical modulation element with which it is possible to reduce the effect of zero order diffraction light and clearly reproduce a desired optical image, and an information recording medium provided with such an optical modulation element.SOLUTION: The optical modulation element includes a component element for modulating the phase of incident reproduction light and thereby reproducing an optical image, the component element having a rugged surface. A maximum diffraction efficiency Dmax with regard to the component element in a wavelength band from 380 nm to 780 nm in the wavelength distribution of diffraction efficiency of a first-order diffraction light and the wavelength distribution of diffraction efficiency of a minus first-order diffraction light forms a maximum value having a full width at half maximum FWHM of 200 nm or less in the wavelength distribution of diffraction efficiency including the maximum diffraction efficiency Dmax.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
