Abstract:
To obtain an optical modulator in which chirp is small and the long distance transmission of light can be realized.
The optical modulator provided with a light transmission layer 5 in which light passes between two clad layers 10 and 11 and a structure in which a voltage is applied between the clad layers 10 and 11 using an electrode 7 and a backside electrode 9. The optical modulator is further provided with a reflection structures 1 and 2 which reflect light at the both ends in the direction where the light passes through the light transmission layer, and a refractive index is varied with an electrooptical effect by applying a reversed bias voltage between the electrode 7 and the backside electrode 9 from the outside.
