To provide a method of manufacturing an optical module that converges light emitted from a first optical element by a condensing lens and that can easily and accurately align the light with the optical waveguide of a second optical element.
The method of manufacturing the optical module sequentially includes: a first step in which a second optical element 6 is moved in the direction of the optical axis of the light passed through a condensing lens and in which the light passed through the condensing lens is aligned with the second optical element 6; a second step in which the second optical element 6 is moved in a plane orthogonal to the optical axis and in which, in the view from the outgoing direction of the light passed through the condensing lens, the focused spot of the light passed through the condensing lens is aligned with a projection 35a that is formed by arraying with the optical waveguide of the second optical element 6 on its top face, in a manner arraying in the direction orthogonal to the optical axis and parallel with the main face of the base; a third step in which second optical element 6 is moved in the direction vertical to the main face of the base and in which the second optical element 6 is aligned in a manner that the light passed through the condensing lens is optically coupled with the optical waveguide of the second optical element; and a fourth step for fixing the position of the second optical element 6.
