To provide an optical module capable of changing a bias current and a modulation current for a laser diode in accordance with a plurality of data transmission rates.
A first optical module comprises: (a) a clock data recovery section which receives an electric signal containing transmission data synchronized with a prescribed clock, generates a first signal continuously varying in accordance with a frequency of the clock and generates a regenerative signal of the electric signal; (b) a rate discrimination section which identifies the first signal and generates a second signal indicating a data transmission rate of the electric signal; (c) control section which generates a first control signal for changing a bias current in accordance with the second signal and a second control signal for changing a modulation current; (d) and a driver section which supplies the bias current to the laser diode in response to the first control signal and supplies the modulation current to the laser diode in response to the regenerative signal and the second control signal.
