To provide an optical recording medium which does not degrade the amplitude of a tracking signal even if recording and reproducing by a floating optical head are performed and to provide a recording and reproducing method for the same.
The optical recording medium is provided with a thermal diffusion layer 2, dielectric layer 3, recording layer 4, dielectric layer 5, and protective layer 6 on a substrate 1. Light is made incident on the optical recording medium from the protective layer 6 side in recording and reproducing. A lubricant 7 is locally applied on the protective layer 6. Loading and unloading of the floating optical head are performed in the coated region and the recording and reproducing are performed in the regions exclusive of the coated region 8. The lubricant is prevented from sticking to the optical element of the floating optical head in recording and reproducing.
