An optical recording medium has, at least, a reflector film, a light transmissive layer formed in this order on a base plate made of thermoplastic resin, and information recording and reproduction are made from the side of the light transmissive layer. The optical recording medium is characterized in that a support base plate is composed of polymer containing a cycloaliphatic structure as the main chain structure, and that the grooves and/or bits formed on the support base plate or the light transmissive layer have bottom surfaces whose center line average height (Ra) is within a range of 0.10 nm to 0.70 nm.
