To provide an optical recording medium which can deal with a higher line speed and higher density and has excellent repetition characteristics and preservation characteristics.
The optical recording medium has a recording layer making a phase change between an amorphous phase and a crystalline phase. The crystalline phase has a maximal value within a range of ±15° from the angles corresponding to the crystal face parallel to 45°, 135°, 225°, and 315° from the tangent direction of a circumference when the peak intensity I of the next diffraction peak which of the angle 2θ=27 to 30° is measured while the sample stripped of the reflection layer and protective layer of the optical recording medium having the crystallized recording layer is rotated 360°, i.., when the the intensity I of the diffraction peaks of θ=13.5 to 15° from a disk surface in an incident angle θ of the X-ray of a face gap d=2.97 to 3.3 in X-ray diffraction spectra using the Kα ray of copper as a light source of the incident X-ray is measured in the intra-surface diffraction of a disk surface which is made incident with the X-ray approximately parallel to the disk surface and detects the diffracted X-ray approximately parallel to the disk surface.
