PURPOSE: To provide an optical recording medium capable of reducing the thermal effect of a second dielectric layer generated heretofore without damaging high reflectivity, capable of obtaining a high modulation degree and enabling good overwrite recording.
CONSTITUTION: An optical recording medium is constituted of a substrate 10, the first dielectric layer 11 formed on the substrate 10, the second dielectric layer 12 formed on the first dielectric layer 11 and having a refractive index different from that of the first dielectric layer 11, the third dielectric layer 13 formed on the second dielectric layer 12 having heat conductivity or specific heat smaller than that of the second dielectric layer 12, the recording layer 7 formed on the third dielectric layer 13 and containing a phase change type recording material, the fourth dielectric layer 14 formed on the recording film 7 and the reflecting film 15 formed on the fourth dielectric layer 14.
