Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve purity and yield, by using optically active 2-phe nylpropionic acid readily available in a large amount at a low cost in optically resolving (±)-1-(1-naphthyl)ethylamine to afford the titled compound useful as a raw material for modifiers of carriers in columns for separating optically active substances, etc.

CONSTITUTION: Optically active 2-phenylpropionic acid is used as a resolving agent to optically resolve (±)-1-(1-naphthyl)ethylamine. The amount of the above-mentioned resolving agent to be used is preferably within the range of 0.7W1.0mol based on the raw material. If the above-mentioned optical resolution is carried out using a solvent, e.g. water, methanol, ethanol, acetone, etc., the aimed compound of higher purity is obtained.
