To provide an optical scanner that has excellent resistance to variation in the amount of laser beams, and accurately obtains a synchronization signal for adjusting write-in start timing to a photoreceptor.
An optical scanner includes: a light source part that emits laser beams; a deflector that reflects the laser beams emitted from the light source part to be deflected; a scanning lens that allows the laser beams deflected by the deflector to be scanned on the surface of a photoreceptor at a constant velocity; a reflector that includes on the front face thereof a reflection surface for reflecting laser beams deflected toward the outside of the photoreceptor from among the laser beams transmitted through the scanning lens; and a synchronization sensor that receives laser beams reflected by the reflector and outputs a detection signal indicating the reception. The reflector is arranged so that scanning velocity in the main scanning direction, which is the scanning direction of the laser beams reflected by the reflection surface on the light-receiving surface of the synchronization sensor, is larger than the numerical result obtained by dividing the scanning distance of the laser beams in the main scanning direction on the light-receiving surface of the synchronization sensor by the response delay time of the synchronization sensor.
