PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner capable of achieving miniaturization, longer lifetime and low power consumption.SOLUTION: An optical scanner includes a light source, a coupling lens, a synchronization lens, a photodetector for synchronization detection, a light source driving part, a synchronous signal generation part, a reflection mirror, an optical deflector and the like. In the light source driving part, the light source is driven in a first driving method in the outside of a scanning area when a synchronization pulse is not detected from the photodetector for synchronization detection in previous scanning, and the light source is driven in a second driving method different from the first driving method in the outside of the scanning area when the synchronization pulse is detected from the photodetector for synchronization detection in the previous scanning.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 26
