Abstract:
PURPOSE: To perform radiation and detection simultaneously or alternately, without requiring a new construction which integrates the two functions of emission and reception for performing inputting and outputting simultaneously, by providing a detector and a laser on a guide element, and providing at least one chemical resistance layer between the laser and the guide element. CONSTITUTION: A guide layer 1 covered with a chemical resistance layer 21 on which a guide element 32 is provided is formed on a substrate S, and both a detector DEC and a laser L are arranged on the guide element 32. This apparatus is covered by a layer of a confining material 5, and the layer 1 covers the surface of the substrate S. The guide element 32 has a restricted width W1, and it is desirable that the laser should have a width W2 smaller than the width W1, and that the detector should have a width larger than the width W1. Consequently, it becomes possible to perform radiation and detection simultaneously. and it is also possible to perform the operation of the detector and the radiation of the laser alternately.
