Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized and inexpensive optical signal coupler with a simple constitution by coupling front ends of plural optical fibers to the side face of a fluorescent optical fiber and obtaining a mixed electric signal of optical signals inputted from respective optical fibers by photodetectors arranged on the end face of the fluorescent optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:Front ends of multicore optical fibers 51 to 55 for communication are coupled to the side face of a fluorescent optical fiber 6, and photodetectors 7 are arranged in end parts of the fluorescent optical fiber 6. Consequently, light emitted from plural optical fibers 51 to 55 is made incident on the fluorescent optical fiber 6 from its side face, and fluorescent materials in the fluorescent optical fiber 6 absorb the incident light to emit fluorescence. This fluorescence is transmitted to the inside of the fluorescent optical fiber 6 and is received by photodetectors 7 arranged on end faces and is photoelectrically converted. Thus, a mixed electric signal of optical signals is obtained from outputs of photodetectors 7, and the small-sized and inexpensive optical signal mixer of simple constitution is obtained.
