PURPOSE: To obtain an optically active chain terpenes which are useful intermediates in new production route for producing sarcophytol A having anticarcinogenic promoter action and antiulcer action at large quantity and at a low cost.
CONSTITUTION: Optically active chain terpenes expressed by formula I {R1 is formula II [R3 is H or SO2R4 (R4 is 1-5C alkyl or phenyl) or acyl] or formula III, IV, V (R5 is H, 1-alkoxyalkyl, 2-tetrahydropyranyl, 2-tetrahydrofuranyl, acyl, etc.); R2 is CH2OR9 (R9 is H, acyl, 1-alkoxyalkyl, 2-tetrahydrofuranyl, etc.), formyl, formula VI (R10 is 1-5C alkyl), formula VII, VIII, IX [R11 is formula X (X is Cl or F) or formula XI]. The compounds are synthesized by using monoterpenoidgeraniol or geranial as a starting substance. The compound expressed by formula I [R1 is formula V (R5 is H) and R2 is formula IX (R11 is formula X; X is Cl) is cyclized and then subjected to Witting transition reaction to provide sarcophytol A.
