PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound useful as a raw material for chemicals, industrial chemicals, ferroelectric liquid crystals, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A compound expressed by formula I (Rf is 1C or 2C fluoroalkyl; (n) is l-10), e.g. (+)-2,2,2-trifluoro-1-cyclohexylethanol. This compound expressed by formula I is obtained by asymmetrically hydrolyzing a compound expressed by formula II with an enzyme. The compound expressed by formula II is obtained by reacting an aldehyde with a Grignard reagent, providing a fluorine- containing alcohol which is a racemic modification and then reacting the resultant compound with an acid halide. The objective expressed by formula I has a fluoroalkyl group having great electron attractivity and a cycloalkyl group on the asymmetric C and is useful as a raw material for enzyme inhibitors, biologically active substances, anticancer agents, etc.
