Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a novel compound capable of forming a complex, useful as an asymmetric hydrogenation catalyst with a group VIII transitional metal, in particular, ruthenium, rhodium, or the like, or as an enantioselective hydrogen displacement reaction catalyst in the prochiral or allylic systems.
CONSTITUTION: A compound represented by formula I or II, (wherein R and R1 are each hydroxy, lower alkyl, or the like; and R2 to R5 are each 3-7C alkyl, aryl, or the like, however, when R2 and R3 are the same, R4 and R5 are different, or when R4 and R5 are the same, R2 and R3 are different), such as (R,S)-(R, R)-P-tert-butyl-P-phenyl-P',P'diphenyl-(6,6'-dimethyl biphenyl-2,2'-diyl)diphosphine is produced. The compound is obtained by reacting a chiral compound represented by formula II with tert-butyllithium, and reacting with a chlorophosphine derivative of a racemic modification represented by the formulae: ClPR2R3 and ClPR4R5. The reaction is conducted preferably at -70 to -55°C.
