PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photochromic crystalline material of a new type applicable to nonlinear optical elements and the like.
SOLUTION: The photochromic crystalline materials is composed of a diheroarylethene based compound having a heteroaryl portion formed of a dihetero 5-membered ring substituted with at least one optically active group, preferably a compound represented by the formula (wherein A and B are each a hetero 5-membered ring which has been substituted with at least one optically active group).
