Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a novel compound having chemical stability, resistant to discoloration, exhibiting excellent light stability and quick response and useful e.g. as a liquid crystal material for display element or electrooptical element.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of the formula I or II (Rf is 1-2C fluoroalkyl; R1 is 3-20C alkyl; R2 to R4 are H, 1-15C alkyl, 2-15C alkenyl, etc.; X1 is COO, OCO, O or single bond; X2 is COO, OCO, CH2O, C≡C, single bond, etc.; X3 is COO, CH2O or O; X4 is O or OCO; * represents asymmetric carbon; A is tetrahydropyran-1,4-diyl, etc.; B is 1,4-phenylene, etc.), e.g. (2R,5S,6S)-tetrahydro-2- hexyloxy-6-trifluoromethyl-5-[4-(2,3-difluoro-4-octylphenyl-1-carbonyloxy)phenyl-1- carbonyloxylpyran. The compound of the formula I can be produced e.g. by reacting a compound of the formula III with a compound of the formula IV.
