Abstract:
Provided is an optically anisotropic layer including a polymer and a specific compound 1, wherein the polymer is such that, when a film of the polymer is formed by a coating method in which a solution of the polymer is used, the refractive index nx(P) in a direction which is inward from the surface of the film and in which the greatest refractive index is imparted, the refractive index ny(P) in a direction which is inward from the surface of the film and is perpendicular to the direction of the nx(B), and the refractive index nz(P) in the thickness direction of the film satisfy the relationship nz(P) > nx(P) ≥ ny(P). The Rth (A450), the Rth (A550), and the Rth (A650) of the optically anisotropic layer have a specific relationship.
