Provided is a propellant free buccal spray composition suitable for transmucosal administration of a sedative. The composition comprises a sedative in an amount between 0.005 and 55 percent by weight of the total composition. The composition also comprises a non-polar solvent in an amount between 30 and 99 percent by weight of the total composition.
