To provide an organic EL device wherein an electron injecting portion is separated from a portion to reflect light from a luminescent layer, and light is extracted from its substrate side.
An anode 2 and a cathode 5 each have light permeability, and an electron is injected into an organic layer 3 from the interface of an electron injection assisting layer 4 and the anode 5 having light permeability. Among light generated in the organic layer 3, light L1 advancing toward the anode 2 side is emitted by passing through a glass substrate 1 after permeating the anode 2, and light L2 advancing toward the cathode 5 side enters into the anode 2 by passing through the electron injection assisting layer 4 and the cathode 5, again passing through the cathode 5, the electron injection assisting layer 4, and the organic layer 3 after being reflected by a reflection layer 6, and it is then emitted by permeating the glass substrate 1.
