To provide an organic EL element having a structure capable of preventing occurrence of dark spots by preventing an organic EL layer from deterioration caused by moisture or oxygen, even if a substrate covered with a polymer or a resin-made substrate is used.
The organic EL element is composed of the substrate, a transparent electrode formed on the substrate, an organic EL layer formed on the transparent electrode, and a reflection electrode formed on the organic EL layer. The transparent electrode is composed of first transparent electrodes and second transparent electrodes composed of a plurality of parts, respectively, which are arranged alternately. End parts of the first transparent electrodes and the second transparent electrodes are formed so as to overlap with each other through insulating layers, and the first transparent electrodes and the second transparent electrodes are electrically insulated from each other.
