Abstract:
To suppress an increase of an electrolytic voltage of an organic hydride production apparatus.SOLUTION: An organic hydride production apparatus 1 comprises: an electrolyte film having proton conductivity; a cathode catalytic layer 4, which is arranged on one side of the electrolyte film, for producing an organic hydride by hydrogenating a to-be-hydrogenated substance with a proton; an anode electrode, which is arranged on the opposite side to the one side of the electrolyte film, for generating the proton by oxidizing water; and a diffusion layer 8 which is arranged on the opposite side to the electrolyte film of the cathode catalytic layer 4 so that the to-be-hydrogenated substance and the organic hydride can pass through the diffusion layer 8. The diffusion layer 8 includes a highly hydrophilic region 26 and a low hydrophilic region 28. The highly hydrophilic region 26 has higher hydrophilicity than that of the low hydrophilic region 28. The low hydrophilic region 28 has lower hydrophilicity than that of the highly hydrophilic region 26, and is arranged more on the side of the cathode catalytic layer 4 than the highly hydrophilic region 26.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
