To provide a new organic-inorganic composite gradient material comprising an organic substrate and a substantially metallic compound on a surface side that can firmly adhere to the organic substrate, the surface of the metallic compound being roughened, and a coating agent.
This organic-inorganic composite material comprises an organic polymer compound and a metallic compound that is chemically bonded with the organic polymer compound. The composite material is an organic-inorganic composite gradient material that has a constituent gradient structure wherein the content of the metallic compound in the composite material is continuously varied in the depth direction from the surface of the composite material and a rugged structure of the metallic compound layer located on the surface. The coating material is one which can form a coating film comprising the organic- inorganic composite gradient material on the substrate.
