To provide an organic-inorganic composite material having high infrared-cutting function and high durability and processability, and enabling the miniaturization and cost reduction of optical systems, and to provide such an optical system using the composite material.
The organic-inorganic composite material comprises at least one compound selected from a metal alkoxide of the chemical formula: R1aR2bM(OR3)c and its hydrolyzate, a copper compound and a polymerizable organic compound. In the chemical formula, R1 and R2 are each an organic group comprising an alkyl, haloalkyl, alkenyl, aryl, haloaryl, cycloalkyl, acyl or epoxy; R3 is a 1-6C alkyl or aryl; M is at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of Al, Be, Ge, Hf, La, Mg, Sc, Si, Ta, Ti, V, Y, Zn and Zr; (a) and b are each 0 or 1; and c is a positive integer calculated from [the valence of the metal element M minus (a+b)].
