To provide a composite particle (an organic inorganic hybrid particle) comprising an organic polymer region composed of a phenol resin and an inorganic polymer region distributed in the same particle and having characteristics such as abrasion and solvent resistances and high modulus of elasticity as an inorganic particle and characteristics such as flexibility and granulating properties as an organic particle in combination and excellent uniformity of particle diameter and to provide a method for producing the composite particle.

The composite particle comprises a reaction gel of a phenol resin with a resin having anionic groups other than phenolic hydroxy groups and a metal alkoxide. The composite particle can be produced by adding water to a solution of the phenol resin, the resin having the anionic groups other than the phenolic hydroxy groups, the metal alkoxide and a base in a water-miscible organic solvent and carrying out emulsification.
