Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide the novel org. nonlinear optical material which improves nonlinear type optical characteristics, expand a transparent region in a visible region and is highly valuable in terms of practicability by using the org. nonlinear optical material consisting of the compd. expressed by the specific general formula. CONSTITUTION:This invention relates to the compd. of a certain kind of a cyanine dye, etc., formed by bonding various kinds of nitrogen-contg. condensed rings including an indolyl group directly or via carbon-carbon double bonds to barbituric acid skeleton or thiobarbituric acid skeleton. Namely, this material is the org. nonlinear optical material consisting of the compd. expressed by the general formula I, where R<1> to R<4> are respectively 1 to 4C alkyl group, such as methyl group, ethyl group, n-propyl group, i-propyl group and n-butyl group or halogen, such as iodine, fluorine, bromine or chlorine. the crystallinity of the compd. is low if the R<1> to R<4> are >=5C alkyl groups.
