PURPOSE: To provide the subject new compound having a cut-off wavelength in a relatively short wavelength range, exhibiting excellent transparency and crystallinity and useful for optical computer, optical communication, etc.
CONSTITUTION: 1-(4-Nitrophenyl)-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-cyanopropene-1-one of the formula. This compound is obtained by the reaction of p-nitrobenzoyl chloride with p-methoxycinnamonitrile in the presence of aluminum chloride.
