Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the electron injection property and chemical stability by providing a negative electrode mainly made of aluminum and containing silicon and an element having the work function smaller than that of aluminum as the auxiliary component.
CONSTITUTION: A negative electrode 6 is mainly made of aluminum and contains silicon and an element having the work function smaller than that of aluminum as the auxiliary component. A positive electrode 2, an organic layer constituted of a positive hole injection layer 3 and a luminous layer 4, and a negative electrode 6 are stacked on an insulating transparent substrate 1. The positive hole injection layer 3 efficiently transports and injects positive holes to the luminous layer 4, and the negative electrode 6 is made transparent in the wavelength region of the light emitted from the luminous layer 4. When an alloy containing an element having a small work function is used for the negative electrode 6, the electron injection property or conductivity is not impaired, and the oxidation resistance of the negative electrode 6 is improved.
