To provide an apparatus and a method for treating organic waste in which organic waste is methane-fermented, ammonia nitrogen is removed at a stripping step to decrease bubbles due to ammonia nitrogen and the concentration of carbon dioxide in the digestion gas to be produced at a methane fermentation step is decreased to obtain high-concentration methane gas, an installation area of the whole equipment can be reduced and the cost of equipment and the operating cost can also be reduced.
The apparatus for treating organic waste, in which the ammonia nitrogen-containing organic waste is methane-fermented, is provided with: a heat treatment unit in which the organic waste is heated and the carbonate compounds and protein in the organic waste are subjected at least partially to decarbonation treatment and protein degeneration treatment; a stripping unit for discharging/removing a part of ammonia nitrogen from the organic waste heat-treated in the heat treatment unit by a stripping operation; and a methane fermentation tank in which the organic waste, from which a part of ammonia nitrogen is removed in the stripping unit, is methane-fermented to remove organic matter and recover the digestion gas.
