PURPOSE: To improve molding processability and enable the film to possess excellent mechanical strength, by orienting a film molded material composed of specific polycyanoaryl ether at a draw ratio of 1.5 times or more.
CONSTITUTION: A film molded material composed of polycyano arylether which contains 80% or more repeating unit as shown by an expression and possesses reducing viscosity [ηsp/c] of 0.5W3.0dl/g at 60°C of a solution of concentration of 0.2g/dl having p-chlorphenol for its solvent is oriented at a draw ratio of 0.5 times or more. The polycuanoaryl ether shown by the expression can be prepared by reacting easily alkaline metallic salt of dihalogenolbenzonitrile and resorcin under existence of neutral polar solvent such as N-methyl pyrrolidone. A molded film obtained by applying press or extrusion processing to the polycyano arylether is oriented at the draw ratio of 1.5 times or more and stabilized through thermal fixation for a oriented film of the polycyanoaryl ether.
