The oriented pigment thin film has a structure, where a pigment molecule of formula (A): Ar-CH=N-C(CN)=C(CN)-N=CH-Ar' (wherein Ar and Ar' are each an aryl group or the like) or formula (B) (wherein X is a 30C or lower hydrocarbyl group, H, a halogen atom or the like) is uniaxially oriented. The coloring matter-oriented thin film has an absorption peak in the light absorption spectrum in the range of 300-2,000 nm, the dichroism ratio at the wavelength of the light absorption peak being at least 1.2 or at least 1.5, and has a film thickness of 1 nm to 10 μm.
