PURPOSE: To prevent an original from being fluttered or scattered, which are caused by an opening/closing operation for a pressing plate by providing a small subpressing plate which presses the edge of an original, and opening/ closing of the subpressing plate while interlocking an opening/closing operation for the pressing plate.

CONSTITUTION: When the pressing plate 3 is closed after an original 1 is placed on an original platen glass 2, a driving part 6 is moved to the left. Consequently a butting member 7 is separated from a subpressing plate foot part 4b, and the subpressing plate 4 is brought into an opening condition. Then, a butting member 8 is abutted on the subpressing plate foot part 4b, so that the subpressing plate 4 is rotated in the direction in which it is closed. When the plessing plate 3 is further closed, the driving part 6 further is moved to the left, and the subpressing plate 4 is closed to press the edge of the original 1 onto the original platen glass 2. When the pressing plate 3 is closed yet further, the subpressing plate 4 does not rotate, therefore it is further pressed by a compression spring 9, and the entire surface of the original 1 is pressed onto the original platen glass 2. Thus, the original 1 is prevented from being scattered.
