PURPOSE: To prevent a defect that an original is moved by an opening/closing of a transparent plate and reaches the outside of a read range by devising the base such that the movement of the original is restricted by the transparent sheet wound by a mechanism of the transparent plate.

CONSTITUTION: An original 10 is inserted between a transparent plate 3 freely opened/closed and an original placing plate 8 on a support base 1. A transparent sheet 11 with a margin from a tip of the transparent plate 3 is suspended and the other end is fixed to the original placing plate 8. As the transparent plate 3 is closed in the direction B, a roller 12 fixing one end of the transparent sheet 11 is turned in a direction E by the movement of gears 13, 14, 15, 16 and a transmission belt 17 to wind up the transparent sheet 11 and the original 10 is gradually retained by the transparent sheet 11 to restrict the movement of the original 10.
