Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outboard engine 1 comprising a gear shifter 13 that includes a mechanism for switching rotary output from propellers 5, 6 to forward and backward movement and nonetheless has a simple configuration and can be downsized.SOLUTION: An outboard engine 1 is provided that comprises a gear shifter 13 arranged between an engine 11 and a lower gear mechanism 12. The gear shifter 13 comprises an intermediate shaft 61 and a backward movement idler shaft 62 which are vertically long and aligned in parallel to each other. Forward movement clutches 64, 67 for connecting/disconnecting power transmission from an input shaft 14 to the intermediate shaft 61 are arranged in the input shaft 14 and the intermediate shaft 61, respectively. A backward movement clutches 70 is arranged in the intermediate shaft 61, for connecting/disconnecting power transmission from the input shaft 14 to the intermediate shaft 61 through the backward movement idler shaft 62. A power from the input shaft 14 is transmitted as a forward movement output through the forward movement clutch 67 and the intermediate shaft 61 to the output shaft 15, and is transmitted as a backward movement output through the backward movement idler shaft 62, the backward movement clutch 70 and the intermediate shaft 61 to the output shaft 15.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
