Abstract:
To provide a method of economically removing both a disulfide and mercaptan from caustic substances.SOLUTION: There is provided a method that is a method of catalytically oxidizing mercaptan to a disulfide oil using a vertical column comprising two reaction zones. A first reaction zone 22 is filled with filler as needed, and a second reaction zone utilizes a bundle 45 of vertically suspended fibers, and is maintained as a continuous gas phase containing a vapor of 20 vol.% to 100 vol.%.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
