Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled composition which has an excellent ability to reversibly adsorb and desorb oxygen and is useful as a catalyst in the separation of oxygen in the air in high concentration and in oxidation, by using a specified metal complex as effective component.
CONSTITUTION: An aldehyde (a) (e.g., salicylaldehyde) is reacted with an amine (b) [e.g., bis(2-aminoethyl)sulfide] in an organic solvent (e.g., alcohol) to give a Schiff base (A). Component A is then reacted with a metal compound (B) (e.g., cobalt acetate tetrahydrate) in a solvent to give the titled composition containing a metal complex of the formula (wherein M is Co, Fe, Ni, Cu, Mn or Zn; n is 1W3) as effective component.
