PURPOSE: To obtain an oxytocic agent consisting of a 15-keto-prostaglandin E or F compound (provided that unsubstituted n-pentyl group is bound to the carbon atom at the 15-position of the prostanoic acid skeleton with double bond between the 5- and 6-positions and single bond between the 13- and 14- positions).
CONSTITUTION: An oxytocic agent containing a prostanoic acid derivative (e.g., 15-keto-PGE1 or 13,14-dihydro-15-keto-PGF3) selected from 15-keto-prostaglandin E or F compounds as an active ingredient. Especially preferred compounds are compounds having a lower alkyl group and a halogen on the carbon atom at the 16-position or a lower alkyl on the carbon atom at the 20-position. A compound having phenyl or phenoxy which may have a substituent group, such as halogen, bound to the carbon atom at the 16-position in place of an alkyl chain on the carbon atoms after the 16-position is preferred due to high expression ability of oxytocic action.
