Abstract:
A process for preparing pure water- and solvent-free sodium polysulphides directly from elemental sodium and sulphur. For this, the sodium and the sulphur are simultaneously metered under protective gas in a stoichiometric ratio corresponding to the desired polysulphide at locationally separate sites of a cylindrical reactor into a melt of a polysulphide introduced into the latter with vigorous stirring in amounts proportioned in such a way that the reaction mixture in the addition region of the sodium remains in the state of a stirrable suspension and is then stirred until the desired polysulphide is formed.
