Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a novel compd. which can suppress arrhythmia and ventricular fibrillation, protect against myocardial ischemia, and can be orally administered.
CONSTITUTION: A compd. of the formula [wherein R is 2,3-O-CH2-O or 2,3-(CH3O)2; R' is -CH3, -CH2CH=CH2, -CH2COOC2H5, or the like; and X is I, Br, or Cl] is provided, which is prepd. by reducing protoberberine with potassium boron hydride and reacting the resulting tetrahydroprotoberberine with a halogenated hydrocarbon in acetone or ethanol at 100-110°C for 1.5-10 hr. The compd. does not cause side effect, has no toxicity, can be administered parenterally, esp. intravenously, and also orally, and can be obtd. at a high purity in a high yield by a simple and convenient means.
