Abstract:
PURPOSE:To reduce the quantity of electric power used in a subsequent melting stage by effectively preheating starting material without melting and by making the average preheating temp. of the starting material higher. CONSTITUTION:Fuel is burned with a burner in a fuel-air ratio close to the minimum fuel-air ratio so as to attain the maximum extent of combustion and starting material is preheated with the generated waste gas. At the time when the temp. of part of the starting material rises to a temp. close to the melting start temp. of the starting material, a cooling gas is added to the waste gas so that the temp. of the gaseous mixture is regulated to a temp. nearly equal to or slightly lower than the melting start temp. of the starting material. The starting material is continuously preheated until a prescribed preheating time elapses.
