PURPOSE: To easily recognize residual capacity of a photographing by detecting a photographic mode, and displaying the recorded capacity or a capacity to be recorded of a recorder by the number of sheets unit in a still mode and by timewise unit in a consecutive photographing mode.

CONSTITUTION: When the power source of a camera is turned on, and a still/ consecutive photographing changeover SW 8 is switched to consecutive photographing, a consecutive photographing speed setting means 10 and a compressibility setting means 9 are set to desired value, and a display content switching means 13 is set to residual amount display, each mode of the consecutive photographing, compressibility, and residual amounts is displayed, and the residual capacity of a recorder 5 is displayed with a photographing enabling time at the time of photographing at the set consecutive photographing speed. Also, when the still/consecutive photographing SW 8 is switched to still, the residual capacity of the recorder 5 is displayed with the photographing enabling number of sheets of still pictures. That is, display related with the capacity of the recorder 5 is operated by the units matched with a mode to be used for photographing hereafter, so that the photographing enabling residual capacity can be recognized at a glance.
