PURPOSE: To eliminate substantially ink remaining in a cartridge by making the ink levels in other ink chambers higher by the specified distance than the upper end of a feed opening of one ink storage chamber until all the ink therein is moved into said ink storage chamber.
CONSTITUTION: Air fed from an air communication section 10 is filled in a section higher than a top section of an air introduction channel 14 and the ink level in a negative pressure generating component storage section 4 can be adjusted by the position of a top section of the air introduction channel 14. In an ink jet cartridge, the upper limit of the ink level is positioned higher by 5mm than the upper section of an ink feed opening, while the lower limit of the ink level is positioned at the upper end of filter effective diameter D2 of a filter 15 set at the ink feed opening, and the upper end D1 of the filter 15 is suitable, and also the upper end of outer diameter D0 of the ink feed opening is still better suitable. The most suitable range of an optimum region of the ink level, therefore, is the range starting from the upper end of the ink feed opening to the position higher by 5mm than the upper end of said upper end of the ink feed opening.
