Abstract:

PURPOSE: To form packages by continuously and rapidly placing a series of wet and soft articles in inverted open hollow containers, and then turning the containers upside down by mounting a plurality of transport units on an endless belt conveyor.
CONSTITUTION: The articles 180 are moved to an article pick up station 190 by an article feeding conveyor 24 before a transport unit 18 is lifted up to the article pick up station 190. The inverted containers are moved to a package assembly station 192 by a container feeding conveyor 26. The transport unit 18 moves the articles 180 from the pick up station 190 to the assembly station 192, and the articles 180 are placed inside of the inverted containers to form the packages 196 there. The packages 196 are moved along a conveyor 16 by the transport unit 18, and inverted. When the packages 196 are turned, a hook-shaped circumferential lip on the container is engaged with a lower edge of a support plate of the transport unit 18 to support the package. The package is unloaded onto a conveyor 28 at a takeaway station 194.
