To ensure the pick finding of a package and prevent the failure of piecing by providing a pick finding auxiliary member kept in contact with the thread layer face of the package near a slit in a package thread end sucking/holding device having a suction mouth formed with the slit sucking the thread end of the package.

This package thread end sucking/holding device 2 facing a package 1 is provided with a suction mouth 4 opened with an oblong slit 5 in parallel with the axis X direction of the package 1 at the tip. A pick finding auxiliary member 6 is arranged on the opposite side to the forward rotating direction of the package near the slit 5. When the suction mouth 4 is lowered and the package 1 is inverted, the auxiliary member 6 rubs the surface layer face, a thread end reaches the contact section between the package 1 and the auxiliary member 6, and the thread end is made easy to pick up and extract. The thread end reaching the position of the slit 5 after the package 1 is rotated about 360° is sucked and held by the suction mouth 4.
