Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a chitosan derivative soluble in various organic solvents and useful for the separation of optical isomers, in high reproducibility, by reacting chitosan with an acid halide in the presence of a sulfonic acid. CONSTITUTION:To objective derivative can be produced by reacting chitosan with an acid halide (preferably acid chloride or acid bromide) in the presence of a sulfonic acid (preferably an acid exhibiting liquid state under the reaction condition, e.g., methanesulfonic acid, ethanesulfonic acid, trifuluoromethanesulfonic acid or trichloromethanesulfonic acid). The amount of the acid halide is preferably >=3 equivalent based on 1 equivalent of the recurring unit of the chitosan.
